Kelly & Kramer Side with Violent January 6th Insurrectionists Over Police, Democratic Institutions
Kelly Has Bemoaned Prison Sentences While Kramer Attended Event With Controversial J6 Group in NJ
Erie, PA – Republicans Mike Kelly and Tim Kramer may be opponents in the race for Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District, but they both side with the violent insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol Building and attacked police on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.
In a 2022 debate, Kelly bemoaned the fact that people who assaulted police officers with flag poles, bear spray, and other weapons were serving time in prison. Following the 2020 election, Kelly unsuccessfully sued to throw out all votes cast in Pennsylvania by mail ballot, and he voted against certifying the election mere hours after the attack on the capitol building.
Kramer attended an event in New Jersey this weekend to commemorate the attack, which was hosted by the controversial group called Patriot Freedom Project, which raises funds for individuals charged with crimes related to the January 6th insurrection. Kramer posted photos to his Facebook page, calling the event “amazing” despite the fact that many of those charged and sentenced violently attacked police.
Democrat Preston Nouri took issue with both candidates’ support for the insurrectionists over the police who were attacked that day and the democratic institutions that are the backbone of our nation.
“It’s infuriating to know that Mike Kelly and Tim Kramer support the violent thugs who attacked our capital and tried to destroy our democracy,” Nouri said. “The fact that Kelly and Kramer have more sympathy for violent insurrectionists than for the police who died defending our democracy on January 6th shows that neither one of them belongs in Congress.”
“I’ll always stand up for our democracy. Unfortunately, Mike Kelly and Tim Kramer don’t, which is why they choose to defend violent criminals who tried to end democracy in our great nation.”
Nouri was born and raised in Erie, graduating from Fairview High School. After high school, Nouri attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. Nouri has worked for the U.S. House of Representatives, the Department of State, and Partnership for a Secure America, and currently works in International Affairs and Defense policymaking since graduating from the University of Pittsburgh.
Nouri is involved in the community in several ways, both as a small-business operator and volunteer. Preston founded and runs Lawrence Park and Go, a small convenience store in Lawrence Park, Erie, which served as an essential business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He also participates in community outreach and service with the Community Outreach Group and has helped support the various efforts of service on which the group focuses.
Nouri resides in Fairview Township in Erie County.
